"BIG JOHN" HOPPERS

First series(Magor lot W-4773 b/n 78186-78260)of 75 units was 
built beginning April, 1960, numbered 8000-8074.  100 ton trucks, 
4713 cu.ft. capacity, 12-30" dia. roof hatch covers, 4 compartments
with 8 gravity outlets, morton steel walkways.  They had 14 vertical
ribs arranged in groups of 4-3-3-4.  Unpainted aluminum with red lettering.

Second series(Magor lot W-5400 b/n 79479-79678)of 200 units built beginning
Jan 1962, numbered 8075-8274.  100 ton trucks, 4948 cu.ft. capacity, 
12-30" dia. roof hatch covers, 4 compartments with 8 gravity outlets, 
morton steel walkways.  They had 14 vertical ribs arranged in groups 
of 4-3-3-4.  Unpainted aluminum with red lettering.


Third series(Magor lot W-5650 b/n 79971-80170)of 100 units built beginning 
August 1962, numbered 8375-8574.  100 ton trucks, 4948 cu.ft. capacity, 
12-30" dia. roof hatch covers, 4 compartments with 8 gravity outlets, 
morton steel walkways.  They had 14 vertical ribs arranged in groups 
of 4-3-3-4. Unpainted aluminum with green lettering.

 
Fourth series(Magor lot W-6525 b/n 82502-82133) of 500 units built beginning
August 1962, numbered 7925-7999(75 units) and 8575-8999(425 units).  
100 ton trucks, 5325 cu.ft. capacity, 2-trough type roof hatch covers, 
4 compartments with 8 gravity outlets, morton steel walkways.  They had 14 
vertical ribs arranged in groups of 4-3-3-4.  Unpainted aluminum, the group 
8575-8999 some delivered with red lettering, others delivered with green
lettering.  The group 7925-7999 were delivered with white lettering, 
no "Big John".

Many are still in operation today(2001)under the NS banner.
